The Fall

Ok so to clear up some of the questions I have been receiving I will post a quick recap of my race today. By quick I am referring to the last 200m or so. Coming into the downhill that leads into the finish I was in 4th place feeling pretty comfortable and ready to make a sprint if need be. A runner who had been with me at 400m had fallen off a bit, but coming into the final turn had begun to make up some ground.  As you can see in the photo here. As I started to pick up the pace he tried to make a few moves on me, but never really made any ground. I was feeling really strong and started to stride out as the finish line neared. Take not the decline here is rather steep and I was moving sub 5 minute (>12mph) at this point. The finish goes from that above photo on grass, to a asphalt road with a small opening, and then a wooden fence on the left as you approach the finish. I was moving fine but this guy decided to try and pass on the left where the fence was. He failed to get by and cut right and in process took out my tail leg causing me to go flying forward. My a few seconds after the fall. You can see the fence in question and a lot of interesting expressions.

I put out my hands which are now torn up, to brace the fall. My arms crumpled and I rolled to the side slamming my right shoulder into the ground and sliding for a few feet on my right side. My right quad is really torn up as is my right side under my arm. My hip has a gash in it as does my shoulder. My right elbow had a bit of gravel in it and surgeon who was at the scene was nice enough to fish it out with my bib number safety pins (yes it was sterilized), and I am not going to post those photos for they are rather bad, ask if you want to see them.  After Sergio and Okwaro helped me up I jogged it in to the finish and then walked over to a bench where I was feeling the after effects of the runners high that I was reasonably in good spirits.

After the awards ceremony where I won $25 and a $25 GC to outback I headed out on a cool down. I am now in the process of seeing what I need to get done to keep this all clean and from screwing me up any further. My shoulder really hurts. BSK 1-2-4 a good showing.

Dude...he's a lucky man. If I would have seen that, he would have wished he was the one with such minor injuries...
